Is it correct that “Pianos should never be on an outside wall?”
“Pianos should never be on an outside wall”. This is one I have heard a thousand times and it just isn’t true anymore. It came from the fact that in the early 1900’s houses were not insulated like they are today, many not insulated at all. This can be a factor in a climate that is either excessively wet or dry. There used to be a weather ‘bleed’ through the wall which would impact the piano significantly. With the insulated houses of today, along with central heating and air conditioning, this is seldom a factor. As long as there is no direct exposure to significant heat, moisture or dryness there should not be a problem.
Good examples would be to never put a piano over or close to a heating/ac register. Also, never put it close to a large body of open water such as a fish tank.
There are loads of other possibilities. If anyone has any questions just give me a call.
Pianos, Puppies, and Pee – What Do These 3 Have in Common?
What could these possibly have in common? It’s not uncommon at all for small male dogs or large ones when they’re puppies to lift their leg on pianos pedals. I’ve encountered this many times over the years. The pedals get corroded, discolored, and often smell. If that’s happened to your piano don’t despair! I can disinfect, deodorize, clean, and polish out those pedals to look like new. Just one of those things you never expect but happens more than you think.
